"...in a time lacking in truth and uncertainty and filled with anquish and despair, no woman should be shamefaced in attemping to give back to the world, through her work, a portion of its lost heart." Louise Bogan, American Poet 1897-1970

It's the Little Things

I'm really not into making large quilts right now.

I'm into making little things. Table runners is as large as I want to go right now, but I'm loving making very little things.

Like tiny pillows. I want a bowl or basket full of them!

(You can click on the image to get a larger view.)

The pillow/pincushion on the top left is a souvenir I picked up while on vacation earlier this year. It was the first thing that was put in my pottery bowl to hold my new tiny pillow collection. I finished the Zinnia cross stitch pillow right before going on vacation and it went in next. I need to finish the other three soon and that will fill up my my bowl to overflowing, so I'm on the lookout for something new to hold them all, plus all the ones on my list I want to make. The redwork cross stitch is a pillow I'm making for hubby. It has our wedding date stitched on it. The two blue and white English Paper Pieced squares I just found again yesterday. I had made them years ago and found them out in our shop in a tub I forgot I put out there with several other tubs when I stopped quilting a few year ago. It was like Christmas when I found and opened them. I had forgotten some of the fabric and I'm so excited to begin working with them. My favorite is batiks and I have some yummy pieces I can't wait to sew up! I even found a Rainforest quilt I have almost all cut out. How could I have forgotten that?!! Well, let's not go there. lol

Here is another red, white and blue table runner I made for my aunt's 75th birthday in July.

That's all I have to share for today.

Happy Quilting and making little things!

Memorial Day Fun

Hope you're all having a blessed Memorial Day.

I played with red, white and blue fabric to celebrate the day. The first picture will be a table centerpiece I made today just using up some scraps and the second picture is a table runner I made earlier this month for my son and his girlfriend.

Mainly just posting them here to document when I made them since I can never remember that. lol

Something New For Me

 Welcome and blessings!

I'm trying something new today. I've never made a Dresden plate and after watching this video I decided to try one. Jenny makes it look so easy. :)

(I'm so sorry. I tried several times to link to this YouTube tutorial, but just couldn't make it work. You will have to copy and paste it into your browser to watch. Again, I'm so sorry.)

The layout:

Pinned to the background:

I know I got the center on a little crooked, but I can live with it. It's not off enough that I want to take it off and sew it back it on again with these old eyes. Hard enough the first time. :)

I'm not sure if I want to sew the blades on by hand or machine, though. I'm leaning toward machine. Any thoughts on this? Would love you to let me know.

Would I make another Dresden Plate? Yes, I would. The chain piecing that Jenny showed in the video made it fast to complete and I thought it was a fun project. I don't know if I would make a whole quilt of Dresden Plates, but maybe a table runner or wall hanging. I might make four squares with the same Colorful Cats charm pack and turn them into a wall hanging. This charm pack also came with 4 squares with bee hives on them and I have a jelly roll of bee fabrics that would go perfectly with this charm pack.

Hmmmm. Stay tuned. :)

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Quilting!

A Fabric Rats Nest!

 Welcome and blessings!

Oh my! What do I have here? A fabric rats nest!! LOL

I've never had this happen before! I washed several fat quarters together and this what came out of the washer! Guess that's what you get when you buy inferior cotton. I picked a few up at a box store over the hill, the pretty batiks, and they frayed like crazy and tied everything into knots.  I laughed so hard when I pulled them out. I want the batiks for a small project I have in mind. I want to make a couple of Mug Rugs for friends and saw those pretty colors and couldn't pass them up. I have a hard time passing up any batik as it is! Oh well. Live and learn.

Thanks for stopping by!

It's Pinned!!

Welcome, blessings and thanks for stopping by!

I got the new quilt pinned!

Thank goodness for granite peninsulas! I didn't need to put anything under the quilt while I pinned.

I'm hoping I have time tomorrow to begin sewing the buttons on and tying the other squares. I'm very excited to get this one done and on to the next project! But, like all quilters, I'm sure I will start with another one before this one is done. lol So many quilts, so little time, eh? There are still two other quilt tops that need backs and batting and several other small projects in my head. :)

Happy quilting!

Happy New Year 2021 I'm Back!!

 Welcome and Hello!

It's been a long time since I've been here and a long time since I've quilted. I think my last post here was in 2012, but I didn't stop quilting until 2014. Almost seven years since I've played with fabric!

I made this top probably 8-9 years ago and decided to start with this one.

It's a variation of a 4 patch. If you click on the image you can get a larger view. The squares are made by starting with a 10" white square right side up, then you lay an 8" print on top of the white square right side up, also. You stitch the print to the white square with a 1/4" seam all around the print. Once you make all your squares you cut them in 1/4's and then mix them up and sew them back together. When it is washed the raw edges will fray and give the quilt some texture. I was going to just back it this way, but I kept looking at it and it didn't seem finished to me. So I added another border in a botanical batik in a purple/turquoise color. Now it looks done!

I put a square of the backing in each corner of the final border.

Close up of the backing.

I'm going to tie this one and add some buttons in the center of every other square. I will be back with the final product as soon as it is done!

Happy Quilting!
